Curriculum Vitae of John FieldenJohn Fielden read history at the University of Oxford and then qualified as a chartered accountant with Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. Following this, he held a research fellowship for two years at the University of London, studying planning and financial management in universities in the UK and the USA. After this he became a management consultant specialising in higher education with Peat Marwick. He stayed with that firm and in 1982 became partner in charge of all the UK firm’s public sector consultancy. He left the firm (now KPMG) in 1990 to practice on his own as an independent consultant specialising in higher education management. In November 1993, he was asked to become Director of CHEMS at the ACU (See History). In 2001 he left the ACU and started CHEMS Consulting as an independent organisation. His experience in higher education has been substantial with many hundreds of engagements for clients of all kinds. In recent years his focus has been on policy studies, internationalisation, regulation of the private sector and sector governance. (See company profile). He has worked in over 40 countries, including Australia, Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Mozambique, Nigeria, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden and Tanzania.
